Boosting Buyer Appeal: The Importance and Benefits of Professional Property Styling Selling
Most people treat home staging as a new concept but in reality, it has been around since the 1970s.
In 1972, Barb Shwarz ventured from the interior design to real estate. A couple of things became quickly clear to her; you couldn’t suggest improvements to a home owner at the time without offending them and well-presented homes will sell faster and above market price.
I always found it odd that it was called “home staging” and not “home styling”. That is because Barb was not just a savvy interior designer she actually had a background in theatre. So, she combined her talents and treated styling a home as a way of setting the scene (staging aset if you will) before buyers walked in so that they would fall in love with the property.
She realised the power of her work and eventually went on to revolutionise the real estate industry with her method byteaching and creating courses to certify home stagers. The growth and awareness of the industry she created was further accelerated by the 2008 housing crisis where sellers would stage their homes to give themselves the best chance of selling.
Fast forward to today and home staging has become a staple of real estate and has added billions of dollars of value to millions of properties for sellers.
